A tie is a fabric band passed around the neck, under the collar of a shirt, and which is tied by front. It can appear various motifs or colour and is attached to the neck to hang free in front of the bust. There exist various nodes of tie. The node can be tight or loose. It belongs to the man wardrobe, even if it happens that certain women carry it. There exist several widths of ties (of 4cm to 9.5 cm).

It is an essential accessory of the costume for the special occasions and even remains an element of the usual behaviour of the regulatory behaviour of some professions. Some however regard it as a too serious accessory, symbol of conformism.
